At this moment, it's still unclear what actually happened, but it was revealed that an unidentified man was driving, and drove his vehicle into a crowd of civilians during Lapu Lapu Day festival, taking the lives of at least nine people.
Canucks Issue A Heartbreaking Statement
It didn't take the Vancouver Canucks long to issue a statement after finding out about this devastating news:
We are heartbroken by the tragic events that occurred tonight at the Lapu Lapu Day celebration.
Our thoughts are with the victims, their families, and everyone impacted, including Vancouver's Filipino community. We extend our deepest condolences and support during this unimaginably difficult time.
This festival is held every year by the city of Vancouver, and it's a celebration among the Filipino community that honors Cilipino Chieftain Datu Lapu-Lapu.
Lapu Lapu Day is a day of celebration in the Filipino community that honors Filipino Chieftain Datu Lapu-Lapu who is best know for his heroic actions in the Battle of Mactan in 1521, a battle in which he defeated the Spanish forces led by Ferdinand Magellan at the time.
