This offseason promises to be one of the most captivating for the Boston Bruins. With the seventh overall pick in hand, the team has entered the retooling phase that many had expected for some time.

The newest potential addition on the market is Avalanche forward Martin Necas who is reportedly unhappy in Colorado.

Recent report indicates Bruins could land star Avalanche winger.

According to reports from Nick Kypreos, Necas was unhappy during his early stint with the Avalanche. While trading Mikko Rantanen may have been questionable, acquiring a talent like Necas was a smart move.
Tommy Bennett from The Hockey Writers reports that with Necas set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the 2025-26 season, the Avs might consider trading him if contract talks don't proceed as planned.
"It was just last summer when the Bruins were linked to Necas (who was with the Hurricanes). The writing always seemed to be on the wall that Necas was going to get moved by the Hurricanes, and eventually he did. The Bruins were in the mix, but this time around, it'll be under different circumstances." -Bennett

The Avalanche gave up a true top-tier player to acquire Necas, so moving him won't come without a significant price. While Necas isn't Rantanen, he's still a solid player, and his contract year status could complicate matters.
"For the Bruins, they have the ammunition to bring Necas on board. They have two first-round picks in 2026 and 2027, followed by four second-round picks over the next three drafts. With the Avalanche having only $1.5 million in salary cap space, shedding him could soften the blow." -Bennett

For Bruins GM Don Sweeney to make this move, he could absorb Necas' $6.5 million cap hit within the Bruins' current $28 million salary cap space. Ideally, an extension would follow, likely with a higher salary, which the Bruins can also afford. Given their need for talent, this is a move Boston should seriously consider.
