A former first-round pick may be on the radar for the Vancouver Canucks this offseason, as GM Patrik Allvin intensifies the team's search for a reliable second-line center.

While numerous names have surfaced as potential fits in recent weeks, it appears that Allvin and Jim Rutherford might shift their focus toward the Colorado Avalanche, eyeing a possible addition from their forward group.

Avalanche are closing in on a blockbuster trade to acquire Canucks star.

Edward Jaxon from Canucks Daily writes that Satiar Shah of Sportsnet discussed the potential interest the Canucks might have in Martin Necas during his radio show with Dan Riccio, suggesting that the Czech forward is a player worth pursuing this offseason.
"Necas, may also end up not being the perfect guy, but I can talk myself into taking that risk because he's already shown he can play at a high level. He's 6'3", he can play tougher, he can learn to do some things better in the playoffs no doubt, but he's super fast, super skilled, can score and even though he's imperfect defensively, I think it's the type of talent the Canucks need and if they give him the opportunity he's never had, truly being a first line guy for real, next to Petey or him on the power play and a true investment and belief from an organization maybe unlocks another level and I think it would be worth going after." -Shah

Necas, 26, is entering the final year of his contract with a manageable $6.5 million cap hit. While he could be a valuable trade target, the Avalanche aren't under immedaite pressure to move him just yet.
With over a year to work out an extension, the team would ideally lock him up before next season's trade deadline, giving them the option to pivot and recoup assets if negotiations stall, rather than risk losing him for nothing in July 1.
"If it were to occur, a blockbuster trade proposal would involve the Vancouver Canucks sending Elias Pettersson to the Avalanche for Necas and a 1st-round pick." -Jaxon

Here's a breakdown of the potential trade that could work for both teams.

Martin Necas

To Colorado:

In 79 games this season with the Carolina Hurricanes and Colorado Avalanche, Necas tallied an incredible 83 points with 27 goals and 56 assists.
