Unexpected Avalanche hero stuns scouts at Rookie Showcase

Asan Sarkenov turned some heads yesterday for the Colorado Avalanche, as they had a third period 5-3 comeback win against the Utah Mammoth, at the NHL Rookie Showcase.
The comeback was a great and exciting way to start off the tournament for the future Avalanche stars.

Coby Maeir from NHL.com covered the first game of the Rookie Showcase. The Avalanche demonstrated their resilience with a late third period comeback win over the Mammoth. It was an impressive night for Sarkenov who potted two goals.
"It was an oustanding effort all the way through the game," Colorado Eagles Head Coach Mark Letestu, who is serving as the Avs' Head Coach for this tournament, said after the game. At 12:45 of the first period, Sarkenov opened the scoring with a net-front shot set up by a low-to-high feed from Vincent Desjardins. Sarkenov doubled Colorado's lead at 15:54 of the first period with a one-timer from the high slot set up by Evan Friesen's feed off the rush." -Maeir
Christian Humphreys, who was also talked about as a person of interest, was equally as impressive for Colorado.
Humphreys gave the Avalanche a 4-3 lead at 17:46 of the third period with a left-circle shot off the rush set up by Maxmilian Curran's backhand feed.

Nikita Prishchepov then capped off the win with an empty net goal with ten seconds remaining for the Avalanche.
The prospects had a strong debut, and given the depth concerns discussed all summer, it's encouraging to see some players making noticeable progress in their development. There may finally be reason for optimism in this prospect pool.
