Gary Bettman and the NHL pushed back against Colorado Avalanche superstar Cale Makar, responding to his bold and fiery playoff demands with a firm stance.

The NHL's current playoff format has faced heavy criticism for years, and now Makar is calling on the league to scrap the system and return to its previous structure.

NHL pushes back at Cale Makar's demands.

Tom Banks from House of Hockey writes that Bettman and the NHL have refused to alter the league's playoff seedings, prompting a journalist to slam the NHL for ignoring what the majority of fans are asking for.
"In recent years, the NHL have made and stuck with a change to their Stanley Cup Playoffs seedings, and for the most part, it's been ridiculous, with the majority of fans around the league hating the change.

It's not just the fans however, as Colorado Avalanche superstar Cale Makar recently called out the league in wanting to go back to the 1-8 format, one that was the norm for years before Gary Bettman made the surprising and idiotic change." -Banks

It's not just Makar speaking out, as The Athletic's Scott Wheeler took to social media to reveal that most players also want a playoff format change.
Yet, citing the league's selfishness and disregard for both players and fans, Wheeler says the NHL remains steadfast in refusing to make adjustments.
"The players want it, the fans want it, and the league and its owners don't care." -Wheeler
Bettman originally defended the playoff format change as a way to build rivalries, but with fans witnessing the same matchups year after year, it's clear the strategy isn't working.
"For four years straight, the Oilers and Kings have matched up in the first-round, and every year, interest in the matchup continues to fall, and it's unfortunate for fans, as that isn't the way the first-round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs should feel." -Banks

Ultimately, Bettman and the NHL remain focused on their own interests, showing little regard for fans or players. Until a major shift occurs, this controversial playoff format is here to stay.
