Trouble brewing in Colorado? Avalanche stumble right before the season begins

The Colorado Avalanche have hit a rough patch just before the start of the season, suffering back-to-back losses, including a 3-2 defeat to the Dallas Stars on Saturday night.
With the 2025-26 opener looming next week, the team faces mounting pressure to regroup, fine-tune their play, and enter the regular season on a strong note.

Coby Meier from NHL.com writes that in their final game of the 2025-26 preseason, the Colorado Avalanche fell 3-2 to the Dallas Stars on Saturday at the American Airlines Center. Tristen Nielsen and Victor Olofsson scored for the Avalanche, while goaltenders Scott Wedgewood and Trent Miner combined to make 19 saves.
Dallas' Arttu Hyry got the scoring started at 6:15 of the first period, deflecting Adam Erne's wrist shot from the bottom of the left circle.
Jason Robertson extended the Stars' lead with a power-play goal off the rush at 3:45 of the second period.
Tristen Nielsen got the Avalanche on the board at 11:13 of the second period, converting a rebound from the right doorstep on the power play.
Victor Olofsson evened the score for the Avalanche on a mini breakaway off the rush at 14:11 of the third period.
Just over a minute later, Colin Blackwell restored the Stars' lead at 15:37, scoring from the doorstep to make it 3-2.
The Avalanche will kick off their 2025-26 regular season on the road against the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. MT.
