Following their series-clinching 6-3 win over the Dallas Stars on Thursday night, the Edmonton Oilers will advance to the Stanley Cup Final and face the Florida Panthers for a second consecutive year in a row.
After coming one game short of winning the championship last season, the Oilers took a new approach this season when accepting the Western Conference's Clarence S. Campbell Bowl, hoping it brings a change in their postseason fortunes.

David Satriano from NHL.com writes that last year, the Oilers chose not to touch the trophy but ultimately fell to the Florida Panthers in a seven-game Stanley Cup Final. Interestingly, the Panthers touched the Prince of Wales Trophy in 2023 and lost in the Final, so in 2024, they left it untouched and went on to win it all.
On Thursday, Oilers' captain Connor McDavid and his teammates decided to touch the trophy.
Edmonton becomes just the third team since the 2006-07 season to touch the Clarence S. Campbell Bowl. The Colorado Avalanche did it in 2022 and went on to defeat the Tampa Bay Lightning in six games to win the Stanley Cup. Meanwhile, the Vegas Golden Knights also touched the trophy in 2018 but fell in five games to the Washington Capitals in the Final.

The Oilers are set for a Stanley Cup Final rematch against the Panthers. Florida secured their spot by defeating the Carolina Hurricanes 5-3 in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Final on Wednesday, clinching the series.
Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final will go Wednesday night in Edmonton.
