Former Avalanche draft pick A.J. Greer keeps reminding fans why Colorado might have pulled the plug on his development far too early.
After winning the Stanley Cup with the Panthers last spring, Greer has
shown no signs of slowing down in Florida's 3-2 win over the Chicago Blackhawks on Tuesday night.
Former Avalanche draft pick A.J. Greer continues to turn heads across the NHL.
The former 2015 Avalanche draft pick made headlines early this season after delivering a controversial hit on Tampa Bay lightning forward
Brandon Hagel during their preseason matchup last night.
Greer played three seasons with the Avalanche before being dealt to the New York Islanders in 2020.
The hit has come with lots of scrutiny from former players, along with members of the media, as Hagel did not return to the game and could be out with further injury.
Greer was fined $2,213.54, the maximum allowed under the Collective Bargaining Agreement by the Department of Player Safety.
To add insult to injury, Greer wasted no time making an impact in Florida's opening game, scoring the first goal of the 2025-26 NHL season.
The veteran forward also set the tone early, dropping the gloves with Blackhawks captain
Nick Foligno to ignite his team's energy.
The Avalanche could use a gritty forward like Greer, someone who brings energy, physicality, and a willingness to stand up for his teammates when the game gets tough.
With Florida's growing list of injuries, don't be surprised if Greer's ice time, and production, see a noticeable boost this season.
