Shocking recognition for Avalanche leader leaves fans speechless

It had been 1,041 days since the Avalanche captain scored a goal in the NHL, but in Game 4 of the first-round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs against the Dallas Stars, Landeskog broke that streak.

Everything that happened leading up to the end of the 2024-25 season for the Avalanche, it feels straight out of a movie, and a story made for the silver screen. When it comes to sports comebacks in Colorado, this one takes the cake.

Jackie Kay from Mile High Hockey writes that another accolade for the Avalanche captain is Landeskog's inspiring return that was showcased in the documentary "A Clean Sheet," which earned him a nomination for Best Comeback Athlete by the ESPY Awards.

Landeskog played his last NHL game on June 26, 2022, as the Avalanche won the Stanley Cup for the first time since 2001.

Just in time for this year's playoffs, Landeskog returned to the Avalanche after a lengthy battle with a serious knee injury. He quickly made his presence felt, recording four points in four games while averaging 16 minutes of ice time, before the Avalanche were ultimately eliminated after blowing a two goal lead in Game 7 against the Dallas Stars.

The Avalanche captain has a cap hit of $7 million that runs until the 2028-29 season. We'll have to wait and see if Landeskog can return to his full form once the season gets going in October.
