New report reveals shocking update on Gabriel Landeskog.
Brennan Vogt from Hockey Mountain High writes that few injury comebacks have been as eagerly awaited by the Avalanche.
Fans greeted Landeskog with overwhelming joy and emotion. His journey began with a knee injury sustained during a game against Dallas in the Edmonton Bubble, when teammate
Cale Makar's skate blade accidentally cut his leg.
After multiple surgeries and missing three full seasons, Landeskog finally made his triumphant return to cheers in Loveland.
"The anticipation built as Landeskog started making more appearances with the Avalanche at morning skates in the second half of the season. At first it was just casual, taking it slow and for part of practice.
The captain slowly built up his strength and stayed longer during practices. Then the day came that every Avalanche fan had been waiting for; the team assigned him to the Colorado Eagles for a conditioning assignment." -Vogt
Landeskog spent six days with the Colorado Eagles, the Avalanche's AHL affiliate, generating well-deserved excitement during his two games in the AHL.
The Avalanche captain sparked a two-goal rally in the third period of his second game with the Eagles, earning his first AHL assist on a John Ludwig goal to tie the game.
Less than three minutes later, Jake Wise fired a shot that Landeskog tipped in for his professional goal in three years. The Eagles went on to win in overtime, with Landeskog named first star of the game.
Landeskog made his NHL season debut in Game 3 of the Dallas Stars series, greeted by a roaring crowd at Ball Arena chanting "Landy! Landy! Landy!"
He opened the game with a huge hit on former teammate
Mikko Rantanen. The real test was whether he could keep up with the NHL's speed and physicality, and he proved he could be playing in every game thereafter.
In Game 4, Landeskog scored a beautiful goal off a drop pass from
Brock Nelson, sparking the loudest cheers the arena had ever heard. He finished the playoffs adding three assists to that tally.
"Landeskog showed his knee could be up to the challenge of NHL hockey once again. In the docuseries 'A Clean Sheet,' he mentions he would like to be an everyday player once again. The docuseries took fans through the three-year rehabilitation process that he had to fight through, including the setbacks." -Vogt
The captain has four years remaining on his contract and will become an unrestricted free agent on July 1, 2029.
