Hurricanes head coach drops truth bomb on former Avalanche star Mikko Rantanen's shocking departure

Mikko Rantanen played on three different teams this past season, a rarity in the NHL for a player of his talent.
It was evident that Rantanen did not enjoy his short time spent with the Hurricanes, as he was blindsided by his trade from the Colorado Avalanche and refused to sign an extension with Carolina.

Zachary Roberts from Sportskeeda writes that the Hurricanes parted with pick and Martin Necas for Rantanen, but then ended up with a much lesser package in return for the star forward than they paid initially.
"Necas was likely leaving in free agency, and Rantanen wasn't staying, either. Logan Stankoven, the centerpiece, starred in the playoffs and signed an extension." -Roberts
Hurricanes head coach Rob Brind'Amour joined the Ovies & Giglio podcast to recap his team's 2024-25 season, and wanted to clear the air on what went down with Rantanen throughout his stint in Carolina.

Brind'Amour went on to say that Rantanen ultimately got the Hurricanes a player they thought they might like. As it turns out, they are beyond satisfied on landing Stankoven in the deal and have high hopes that he can help the Hurricanes get to the next level.
