Can Landeskog spark a new era for the Avalanche next season?
Graham Tiedtke from Mile High Sticking writes that
Landeskog looked solid overall in his return, but it would've been ideal to see more from him, something that might have happened if Colorado had advanced past the Dallas Stars in Round 1.
"Landeskog is already ramping up his workouts to prepare for the 2025-26 season. We have seen how hard he has been working to get back onto the ice, thanks to his docuseries throughout his recovery from the devastating knee injury." -Tiedtke
One major consideration with Landeskog is his $7 million cap hit. If he underperforms, the Avalanche can't simply move him to LTIR unless a legitimate injury, such as ongoing knee issues, comes into play. With only $1.2 million in cap space and multiple roster spots still to fill, Colorado is facing a serious salary cap crunch.
That said, the situation could improve once the team makes a move to clear up some financial room.
"Even with the salary cap rise in 2025-26, the Avalanche need to figure something out to free up space. I know this is a huge long-shot, but the reality is that trading Landeskog is technically a possibility." -Tiedtke
The Avalanche could look to move him to a team like the Hurricanes, Bruins, or Sabres, among other potential trade partners.
