During a breakout season, Martin Necas was traded to the Colorado Avalanche on January 24.

The deal also included Jack Drury, a 2025 second-round pick, and a 2026 fourth-round pick from the Carolina Hurricanes.

Will the Avalanche be able to re-sign Martin Necas once he becomes a free agent?

Coby Maeir from NHL.com writes that Necas recorded a career-high 83 points (27 goals, 56 assists) in 79 games this season, including 28 points (11 goals, 17 assists) in 30 games after joining the Avalanche.
He became just the second player in Avalanche/Nordiques history, alongside Mike Ricci in 1992, to tally at least 11 goals and 17 assists in their first 30 games with the team. In the playoffs, Necas added five points (1 goal, 4 assists) over seven games.
"In his second game with the Avs, a 5-4 win against the New York Rangers on January 26th, Necas recorded his first two points with the club, both assists. On January 31st, Necas scored his first goal with the Avs in a 5-0 victory against the St. Louis Blues." -Maier
Necas tallied points in 18 regular-season games with the Avalanche and notched seven multi-point performances. Notably, he scored twice in two of those outings, once in a 4-2 victory over the Calgary Flames on February 6, and again during a 4-0 shutout against the Los Angeles Kings on March 27.
"Of Necas' 13 multi-game point streaks this season, six came with the Avs, highlighted by a four-contest point streak where he registered seven points (3g/4a) from March 20th-27th. During that streak, the Avalanche went 4-0-0." -Maier

The 2025-26 campaign is the final year of his current deal. He enters the season just 59 games shy of reaching 500 in his NHL career and needs 74 more points to hit 400-point milestone.
We'll see if the Avalanche choose to re-sign him once his contract is up next summer.
