NHL insider Elliotte Friedman warns that the Colorado Avalanche could be in danger of missing out on blockbuster trade target Yegor Chinakhov, with the latest development casting doubts on their chances.
Chinakhov's name has been circulating around Avalanche trade rumours.

Tom Banks from Hockey Unplugged writes that with Chinakhov likely on the move soon, Friedman has weighed in on a compelling trade proposal involving the Toronto Maple Leafs.
"A few weeks ago, Yegor Chinakhov surprising asked for a trade from the Columbus Blue Jackets, and while we haven't seen much movement yet, the expectation is that he will be dealt by the team at some point." -Banks
Don Waddell, the Blue Jackets GM, pushed back against Chinakhov's request, indicating the situation could become more contentious before it's resolved. Meanwhile, multiple teams across the league have shown interest in the skilled 24-year-old.
Recently on the 32 Thoughts podcast, Friedman was asked about a possible trade between the Maple Leafs and the Blue Jackets involving Nick Robertson for Chinakhov. He shared what it would take for that deal to happen.
"One Columbus fan asked me if Chinakhov for (Nick) Robertson made sense. I don't know, I think Toronto would have to do more to get that done." -Friedman
The main challenge for the Maple leafs heading into next season is their crowded forward group. Bringing in a skilled player like Chinakhov could add valuable top-six talent, but making that happen would require them to give up multiple assets.
According to Friedman, it will take more than just Robertson to land Chinakhov. However, with plenty of forwards available to trade, there's a chance a deal could be struck for the former first-round pick, who has the potential to make a big impact with the team.
