Mark Eason from NHL Rumors writes that the Avalanche will have a very tricky decision to make on Necas next NHL season. With several other pending UFA's in similar situations, we could see a handful of major trades happen throughout the season.
The Avalanche might allow Necas to speak with other teams about a contract if negotiations with Colorado don't pan out, which could help boost his trade value.
"Maybe there is an option with a rebuilding team like the Philadelphia Flyers. What about an Adrian Kempe for Necas trade if the LA Kings can't re-sign Kempe?" -Eason
The ideal outcome, however, would be for the Avs to secure an extension with Necas.
The Avalanche might trade Ross Colton if they acquire a third-line center with a larger salary cap hit, as they likely don't want two big cap hits on the third line. I had expected them to move Colton rather than Charlie Coyle this offseason.
The same applies to Samuel Girard. The Avalanche could trade him if they bring in another higher-priced defenseman. Both Colton and Girard still have two years remaining on their contracts.
