NHL insider Frank Seravalli of the Daily Faceoff just issued a bold statement regarding the Colorado Avalanche's defense as they prepare to enter the playoffs for the eighth consecutive season.

The Colorado Avalanche have just five games remaining in the regular season, and will be gearing up to hopefully go on another long run in the Stanley Cup Playoffs this season.
MacKinnon is leading the Avalanche once again this season, and as of right now he is the leading favourite for the Hart Trophy this year, but offense is not a question for the Avalanche at all.
Especially with the moves the Avalanche made during the NHL trade deadline acquiring some big named offensive guys like Martin Necas, Brock Nelson, and Charlie Coyle.
However, NHL insider Frank Seravalli believes that the Colorado Avalanche's defense could be a problem for them in the playoffs.

Frank Seravalli With A Bold Statement On The Avalanche's Defense

The Colorado Avalanche have superstar Cale Makar on the backend paired with Devon Toews which is, and has been super solid for the Avalanche, but after that they don't have the deepest defensive core.
They do indeed have some veteran experience on the backend in ex-Stanley Cup champion Erik Johnson, and Ryan Lindgren, but it's been proven multiple times throughout the year that if they get caught on the ice in the wrong matchup, they will get exposed.
Tyler Yaremchuk and Frank Seravalli spoke about this on the latest edition of Daily Faceoff LIVE on Friday, and this is what Seravalli had to say about the Avalanche's defense:
Frank Seravalli: Ryan Lindgren will help. He's certainly a playoff-style defenseman, but they've got one all-world pair, and four, I would say, highly questionable defenseman after that. They're going to have to try and shelter some of these guys. I think [Sam] Malinski has taken some strides. Keaton Middleton is a guy who's been in and out of the lineup. Erik Johnson, they grabbed from the [Philadelphia Flyers] at the trade deadline as sort of a last gasp and bring him in. He made the joke he'd sweep the floors or whatever it was, if that's what it took to be part of this Colorado Avalanche team. Look, that's clearly the issue with the Avs. If they have trouble, it's going to be [that] they don't have depth on defense.

The Avalanche are super stacked on the front end, and that could play in favour of them, but you're going up against best on best here soon, and Jared Bednar is going to have to do his best to make sure he gets the right matchups for his defense.
