In a surprising twist, an NHL analyst has released new rankings that place the Colorado Avalanche on top with the league's best defensive core, sparking major buzz among fans and insiders.

NHL analyst Thomas Hickey shares his selections for the NHL's top five defensive units. The first four teams on his list were loaded with star power, making for an impressive and eye-catching group.

Analyst drops shocking statement about the Avalanche.

Nestor Quixtan from Mile High Sticking writes that the Montreal Canadiens, Washington Capitals, Dallas Stars, and Florida Panthers ranked fifth through second, respectfully, each featuring some of the league's most skilled blue liners.
But it was the top-ranked Avalanche who stood out, showcasing the most complete blend of talent, mobility, and physicality on the back end.
Hickey highlighted Cale Makar and Devon Toews as potentially the best defensive pairing in the entire NHL.
"Maybe that's the best D-pair in the world." -Hickey

Given the raw talent spread across the league, naming reigning Norris Trophy winner Makar and his partner Toews as the best defensive duo in the world is no exaggeration. Makar dominated last season to secure the Norris, while Toews solidified his reputation as one of the top defensive defensemen in the game.
"But the acclaim doesn't stop there. Hickey lauded Brent Burns, projecting his presence as one that would improve Colorado's defense. Hickey also compared Sam Malinski to Makar, albeit a lighter version of the world's best blue liner." -Quixtan

Then there's Samuel Girard and Josh Manson, whom Hickey praised as a potent blend of physicality and skill. Summing up his thoughts, Hickey also stated...
"Colorado, in my mind, has the best back end in the NHL." -Hickey

With this lineup, the Avalanche's defense is poised to dominate the NHL next season once again.
