When the Colorado Avalanche aren't on the schedule, their absence is always felt. But when the 2026 Winter Olympics begin, fans will still get to watch some of the team's top talent take the ice in Italy.

Earlier on Monday, news broke that Gabriel Landeskog was included in Team Sweden's preliminary roster. However, the list of Avalanche players expected to participate in the event didn't end with No. 92.

Next season just became a lot more interesting for Avalanche fans.

Graham Tiedtke writes that for Team Canada, the Avalanche will be represented by Nathan MacKinnon and Cale Makar, selections that come as no surprise. This latest achievement add another milestone to their impressive careers, and with the Olympics announcement, both can take pride in the opportunity to represent their country on the international stage.
"The two Canadian Avalanche players will join Sidney Crosby, Auston Matthews, Sam Reinhart and Brayden Point as the preliminary team. We'll have to wait and see if Devon Toews gets named to Team Canada, too. MacKinnon, Makar and Toews all made the 4 Nations Canada team, so it wouldn't shock me to see Toews make this team as well." -Tiedtke

Lastly, Martin Necas, acquired this past season from the Carolina Hurricanes in the blockbuster Mikko Rantanen trade, has earned a spot on Team Czechia's preliminary roster.
"Necas will join the likes of David Pastrnak, Pavel Zacha, Radko Gudas, Lukas Dostal, and Ondrej Palat on Team Czechia. Necas had 27 goals and 56 assists during the 2024-25 season, between the Hurricanes and Avalanche." -Tiedtke

There's definitely a lot of intrigue surrounding how the final Olympic rosters will shape up. Could Devon Toews earn a spot on Team Canada alongside MacKinnon and Makar? A third Avalanche representative on that squad wouldn't be out of the question given his consistency and defensive prowess.
As for Mackenzie Blackwood, the talent is there, but cracking Team Canada's goaltending trio is no easy task. Still, it'll be interesting to see how things develop as the tournament draws closer.
The Winter Olympics will take place in Milano Cortina in 2026 from February 11 to February 22.
With four players set to represent their country next winter, Avalanche fans should be extremely fortunate to experience such great talent every NHL season. Enjoy it while it lasts.
