A brand-new report has surfaced, offering fresh insight into superstar forward Kirill Kaprizov's potential future with the Colorado Avalanche, as trade rumours continue to swirl and speculation intensifies around the league.

With Kaprizov eligible for a contract extension and reports suggesting talks have hit turbulence, the question now is whether the Avalanche should make a move to acquire the star winger.

New details emerge about Kirill Kaprizov's future in Colorado.

Conor Lively from Mile High Sticking writes that Wild superstar Kirill Kaprizov is in the final year of his contract and eligible for an extension. Rumours have been rampant, including reports that he turned down a $128 million deal that would have made him the highest-paid player in the league.
Trade speculation soon followed, though Wild GM Bill Guerin denied both the contract offer and its rejection. Despite the denials, media speculation continues about which NHL teams could potentially land the superstar forward.
"With the rumors running rampant, the salary cap changes, and the Martin Necas uncertainty, you could make an argument that the Avs could make a run at Kirill Kaprizov. However, I think that GM Chris McFarland and the Avalanche should avoid the situation altogether." -Lively

To fit Kaprizov's massive contract, GM Chris MacFarland would need a major roster shakeup. With Cale Makar due for an extension and most of the core locked through 2030-31, more than just Necas would likely have to be moved.
"Locking up Necas should be first priority of course, but even signing him to more than the rumored $10 million would be a better move than attempting to sign Kaprizov at more than $16 million AAV. That extra cap space for McFarland to build more depth into the team or extend other players like Artturi Lehkonen, Samuel Girard, or Jack Drury, who all could hit free agency within the next two years.

Shooting for the fences on Kaprizov now is just not a good move for Colorado as it would severely hamper the next few years." -Lively

Acquiring Kaprizov would likely require trading a core player or multiple pieces. With a weak prospect system and rising salaries for depth players, giving up so much for one star would be a tough call.
