Cale Makar's latest remarks have sent ripples through the Colorado Avalanche fanbase, leaving many on edge as the team prepares for the highly anticipated 2025-26 NHL season, raising questions about expectations, performance, and the team's outlook.

Makar spoke to the media during Wednesday's season-opening media availability.

Makar's latest comments has fans talking.

Will Petersen from Denver Sports writes that the Avalanche star defenseman already boasts an impressive collection of trophies, but he's clearly not done adding to it.
"Makar, at just 26-years-old, has won two Norris Trophies, a Calder Memorial Trophy, a Conn Smythe Trophy and most importantly a Stanley Cup. Still, with so much good hockey left in front of him, Makar will add plenty more accolades as his career goes on." -Petersen

At Avalanche media day on Wednesday, Nathan MacKinnon emphasized his desire for another championship. When asked if the 2025-26 season could be the year Colorado repeats, Makar offered a detailed response.
«I think for us, obviously, we want to win the Stanley Cup. That's the goal for everybody, we want to do it again. I think at this moment that's our goal but there's still so much to do to get there.» -Makar

Yes, the Avalanche face another gruelling 82-game season. While they've reached the playoffs eight consecutive years, they've advanced beyond the second round only once, during their 2022 Stanley Cup-winning campaign.
«We've had some really good teams in the past couple of years and we just haven't been able to get it done. I think this year there's even more excitement around the team." -Makar

Colorado doesn't face many uncertainties, as Makar hints. Captain Gabriel Landeskog is fully healthy, forward Valeri Nichushkin has remained steady, and the team's goaltending situation is finally resolved.
«The success of it all, it'll come, I think. That's the exciting part is when you start building these bonds as a team. It'll be fun and I think we'll get there." -Makar

Avalanche fans are dreaming of another Stanley Cup in June, and if it happens, Makar will undoubtedly be a key factor.
