The Montreal Canadiens don't seem to be done making big moves following Friday's blockbuster trade for defenseman Noah Dobson.
Multiple reports indicate that they're among several teams expressing strong interest in trading for St. Louis Blues forward Jordan Kyrou.
Blues are looking to trade Kyrou.
Yardbarker reports that TSN's Pierre LeBrun mentioned on "Insider Trading" that the Canadiens are indeed in the mix for Kyrou. Other reports indicate that any team pursuing Kyrou would likely need to offer Blues GM Doug Armstrong a young, highly skilled center in return, and the Canadiens may be doing exactly that.
"Talks between Montreal and St. Louis reportedly continued late into the night, with a trade framework centering around Kirby Dach and defenseman Mike Matheson going the other way. Additional pieces are believed to be involved." -Yardbarker
Armstrong spoke to the media about the team's priorities, outlining the areas they're looking to improve.
«We're very strong on the wing right now we're one of 27 teams that would love to find a second-line center if we make a trade, it'll be an apple for an apple.» -Armstrong
That fits with a possible deal involving Dach, who, at 23, still carried considerable potential as a top-six center, even with his recent injury.
"Kyrou, 26, is coming off a 36-goal, 70-point campaign and carries a cap hit of $8.125M through 2029. While Blues insider Andy Strickland reports that Kyrou isn't actively being shopped, he also acknowledges that St. Louis could consider moving him in the right deal." -Yardbarker
Fresh of their first playoff appearance since 2021, Montreal appears determined to speed up its retooling process. With Dobson already in the fold, successfully acquiring Kyrou would add a dynamic scoring winger to pair alongside Cole Caufield and Nick Suzuki.
