The latest update has officially determined the future of veteran defenseman Matt Grzelcyk with the Colorado Avalanche.
Avalanche miss out on signing defenseman Matt Grzelcyk.
According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman on Sunday, Matt Grzelcyk has officially signed with the Chicago Blackhawks, ensuring the defenseman remains in the Windy City through the regular season.
The details regarding the financial terms of the agreement have not yet been disclosed.
The Avalanche were reportedly monitoring the developing situation in Chicago, where the Blackhawks recently brought in Grzelcyk on a PTO deal.
Grzelcyk joined the Blackhawks prior to the season for training camp and preseason games. Over three contests, he has yet to record a point but has maintained an even plus-minus across 52:59 of total ice time.
During the exhibition schedule, he has also registered one shot on goal and two blocked shots.
Last season, the 31-year-old played for the Pittsburgh Penguins, recording one goal and a career-best 39 assists across 82 games, while averaging 20:37 of ice time per contest.
A native of Charlestown, Massachusetts, Grzelcyk was originally selected 85th overall by the Boston Bruins in 2012. Over 527 career games, the majority spent during eight seasons with Boston, he has amassed 26 goals and 149 assists.
With his experience and steady play, Grzelcyk looks poised to make an immediate impact for the Blackhawks as the regular season gets underway.
