Leaked Video Revealed Avalanche's Captain Gabriel Landeskog Was Overcome With Emotions During Home Opener
In a sit-down interview, Colorado Avalanche captain Gabe Landeskog revealed the sheer emotion that overtook him during the avalanche home opener at the beginning of the year.
Landeskog has been away from the game since June 26th, 2022, due to a knee injury that has kept him off the ice and he could not believe the admiration that fans showed considering how long he's been away.
Landeskog inching closer to an NHL return
In the interview, Landeskog explained that he didn't feel people would remember him as he has not been on the ice for so long and that the roar of the crowd when he stepped out on the ice at the home opener overwhelmed his senses and forced him to leave the ice and hide in the hallway.
He also felt weak and worried and scared that he was letting people down even though he has been facing adversity since the knee injury began.
Bednar has hope that Landeskog will be ready when it's the right time
Everybody from fans, teammates an ownership hope that Landeskog will be back when he's comfortable and 100%. This sentiment has been echoed the most from head coach Jared Bednar.
"He's looking good; I thought he looked great in practice today," Colorado coach Jared Bednar said. "Obviously, just like sort of the flow-and-go noncontact stuff. Certainly, [it's] nice to have him out there.
"He's making strides. Obviously, this rehab is not linear. There's lots of peaks and valleys in it, and sometimes it's two steps forward and one step back, but he's still making progress and obviously feeling comfortable enough to come out and join the team with certain drills. So, hopefully that continues and continues to grow and [he's] working to a point of a return." Jared Bednar
Bednar also stated that having Landeskog around the players and in the room with his energy helps all players especially as they prepare for the first round of the playoffs which is less than two weeks away.
"It's really hard to say [when he'll play again], but things are going great and it's certainly nice to have him back on the ice with our team," Bednar said. "Just the energy and sort of attitude that he brings to the ice, I think, helps everybody. Jared Bednar
The Avalanche will be at home to face off against the Vegas Golden Knights on April 8th and the game time will be 9:30 PM eastern.
