League makes official ruling on former Avalanche player's cowardly act

The NHL has officially announced its decision regarding former Colorado Avalanche draft pick A.J. Greer, after his cowardly act against Tampa Bay Lightning forward Brandon Hagel during their recent preseason matchup.

Hunter Crowther from the Daily Faceoff writes that the NHL's Department of Player Safety has fined Greer $2,213.54 for roughing Hagel.
The fine represents the maximum amount permitted under the league's Collective Bargaining Agreement.
"The incident occurred midway through the first period when Greer hit Hagel with several jabs and appeared to make contact with the face with his stick. Greer was handed a cross-checking minor, a roughing minor and a 10-minute misconduct on the play. He finished the game with 29 total penalty minutes." -Crowther
Greer, 28, tallied six goals and 11 assists for 17 points along with 130 penalty minutes across 81 regular-season games for the Panthers in 2024-25. He also appeared in 16 playoff contests, contributing two goals, one assist, and 22 penalty minutes as he helped the Panthers capture the Stanley Cup.

A native of Joliette, Quebec, Greer was selected by the Colorado Avalanche in the second round of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft.
Over six seasons in the AHL, he recorded 85 goals and 110 assists for 195 points, along with 380 penalty minutes in 278 career regular-season games.
