A newly released report has shed light on the shocking reason why Colorado Avalanche Stanley Cup hero Nazem Kadri was ultimately left off Team Canada's Olympic roster.

The Calgary Flames forward believes he deserves serious consideration for a spot on Canada's men's Olympic hockey team, expressing his disappointment after being left off the 42-player orientation roster earlier this August.

New report reveals why Nazem Kadri didn't crack team Canada's Olympic roster.

Jim Parsons from NHL Trade Talk writes that Kadri expressed his disappointment this week after being left off Team Canada's long list of players invited to Hockey Canada's Olympic orientation camp.
Despite coming off one of the best seasons of his career, scoring 35 goals and 67 points in 82 games, the 34-year-old Flames centre never received the call to try out.
Unfortunately, success has been hard to come by for him in Calgary since joining the team in free agency.
"On the surface, the idea that Kadri was excluded because he plays for the Flames sounds biased. After all, MacKenzie Weegar was invited and he plays for the Flames too." -Parsons

That said, with far more forwards to choose from than defenseman, and with the Flames not viewed as a serious Stanley Cup contender, it's fair to argue that Calgary's absence from the playoffs limited how much evaluators have recently seen him in meaningful games.
"Being on a high-profile, contending team could give Kadri the kind of stage that makes his selection nearly undeniable. Despite having won a Stanley Cup with the Colorado Avalanche in 2022, timing and circumstance may be working against him.

If this matters, one has to wonder if Kadri's Olympic hopes could be tied to a trade. A move to a contender - a team with a stronger playoff profile - would not only place him on a winning roster but also put him in the spotlight in front of national team selectors." -Parsons

His name has circulated in trade rumours throughout the summer, with both the Toronto Maple Leafs and Montreal Canadiens reportedly showing interest. At the very least, reports suggest he'd be open to joining either club if the opportunity arose.
