Fresh off a Stanley cup victory with the Florida Panthers, Brad Marchand is expected to be one of the most coveted free agents on the market this offseason.
Latest report suggests Avalanche are frontrunners in landing Marchand.
Marci Rubin from Fansided writes that at 37, Marchand has shown he still has plenty in the tank. He netted 10 goals during the Panthers' Stanley Cup Playoff run, six of which came in the Stanley Cup Final alone, proving he remains a clutch performer on hockey's biggest stage.
The Avalanche are a team that could definitely utilize Marchand's services.
"Since winning the Cup in 2022, this team has struggled in the playoffs the past three seasons, winning just one playoff series in 2024. The Avalanche need to make strategic moves this summer to get them ready for a deeper playoff run." -Rubin
Following the
Mikko Rantanen trade, the Avs found themselves needing additional scoring depth. It was no coincidence that their playoff exit came at the hands of the Dallas Stars, with Rantanen playing a significant role.
Enter Marchand, a seasoned veteran with a strong playoff resume and Stanley Cup victories with two different teams, who could be just the spark Colorado needs.
"Marchand would be a wise choice to fill the hole left behind by Rantanen. He's already been linked to the Avalanche in trade rumors. The team could benefit not only from his leadership but also from his scoring ability and aggressiveness." -Rubin
Marchand thrives in high-pressure moments, and the Avalanche could certainly benefit from his presence. In 20 playoff games this year with the Florida Panthers, he's tallied 8 goals and 10 assists.
