A recent report has unveiled a surprising development regarding goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood's health status, raising new questions about his availability ahead of the Colorado Avalanche's season opener on Tuesday against the Los Angeles Kings.

New reports provides health update on Mackenzie Blackwood.
Aarif Deen from Colorado Hockey Now writes that with final rosters due in just a few hours, Avalanche goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood took shots during Monday's full team practice.
While he continues to make progress in his recovery, he won't travel with the team to Los Angeles for opening night.
"The Avs still need to decide on how to start the year with their goalie by 3 p.m. MT. If they keep him on the 23-man roster, they'll have to carry three goalies to account for
Trent Miner as the backup. If that's the route they decide to go, then they'll have to send
Keaton Middleton down." -Deen
Although Blackwood won't suit up for Colorado's opener against L.A. on Tuesday, Bednar revealed that his number one goalie is definitely improving.
Jared Bednar said that Mackenzie Blackwood will not travel for the LA game tomorrow.
«He's obviously improving.»
Middleton was placed on waivers Sunday and, if he clears later today, is expected to be assigned to the AHL. He was not present at practice.
Meanwhile,
Ilya Solovyov will begin the season as the Avalanche's No. 7 defenseman, and rookie forward
Gavin Brindley has officially earned a spot on the opening night roster.
