A newly released report has revealed a stunning twist in the career path of top Colorado Avalanche forward prospect Nikita Prishchepov, leaving fans and analysts buzzing about what it could mean for his future.
Prishchepov began last summer as the Avalanche's 217th overall selection in the NHL Draft.
Nikita Prishchepov receives stunning career update.
Brennan Vogt from Hockey Mountain High writes that Prishchepov entered development camp the following with little expectations of cracking the roster, but after impressing management both there and again at training camp, he earned a three-year entry-level contract.
Here's what Prishchepov had to say in a recent interview...
"When I was going to development camp, or rookie camp, or main camp, I didn't even know if I'll sign a contract, stay here, or I'll go back to junior. All I tried to do was to earn a contract and play pro hockey, and then the AHL season starts, and I didn't expect to play NHL, but then I play six games, and it just happened so quick. So I didn't have time to realize that it's happening to me, you know." -Prishchepov
Prishchepov opened the season with the Colorado Eagles, appearing in just six games before earning his first call-up to the Avalanche. His four points and standout physical play quickly set him apart at the AHL level.
"The 21-year-old spent the next month with the Avalanche, making his NHL debut on November 2, 2024, against Nashville. In his 10 games with the Avalanche, Prishchepov would not get onto the scoresheet, but left a lasting impact on the coaching staff." -Vogt
Once Valeri Nichushkin returned as a regular in the Avalanche lineup, Prishchepov saw no further ice time in Denver. Instead, he became a key contributor in the bottom six for the Eagles, using the opportunity to adapt to the pro level. His physical presence proved crucial in several wins, with head coach Aaron Schneekloth relying on him as one of the team's bigger bodies.
After games at Blue Arena, veteran Andrew Cogliano was often seen offering the young forward advice. Prishchepov wrapped up the season with nine goals and 14 assists over 51 games.
With two years remaining on his three-year entry-level deal, Prishchepov could see more NHL action this season, given the current state of the Avalanche lineup.
His gritty style of play and eagerness to learn were key reasons he earned his contract in the first place, and they may continue to open doors at the next level.
