The latest report confirms that the Colorado Avalanche continue to be one of the leading contenders in the highly competitive race to sign top free agent forward Robbi Fabbri ahead of the upcoming NHL season.

There has been ongoing speculation and multiple reports that have already tied Fabbri to the Avalanche.

Avalanche closing in on signing Robbi Fabbri ahead of next season.

Dave Jenkins from NHL Trade Rumor writes that in the NHL rumour mill, the biggest moves usually occur within the first 48 hours of free agency. Yet, the smartest managers often uncover their best bargains during the quieter stretches of August. This leads us to one of the most intriguing unrestricted free agents still available: Robby Fabbri.
"After a tough year in Anaheim that saw him pot just eight goals, the market for Fabbri has been understandably cool. But let's not forget, this is a player who scored 32 points in 68 games for Detroit just a few seasons ago. He has a scoring touch and a tenacious style that, when healthy and confident, can be a real asset. My sources tell me two elite teams are looking past his recent stat line and see a potential high-reward reclamation project." -Jenkins

The Avalanche present an intriguing opportunity. GM Chris MacFarland is consistently seeking depth scoring to bolster his superstar lineup, and the Avalanche's bottom six could definitely use a boost of offensive creativity, exactly what Fabbri offers.
Although his 2024-25 season was largely disappointing, playing in a system like Colorado's, surrounded by elite talent, might be just the environment he needs for a strong comeback. He seems like a perfect fit for a professional tryout (PTO), a low-risk chance for the Avalanche to evaluate him and an opportunity for Fabbri to prove he still belongs on a contender.
"Then there's the Tampa Bay Lightning, the masters of finding diamonds in the rough. GM Julien BriseBois has a long history of bringing in veterans on cheap, one-year deals and getting the most out of them.

The Bolts' forward depth isn't what it once was, and they need cost-effective players who can fill a role. Fabbri fits that mold perfectly. He could slot into their third or fourth line, add a bit of scoring punch, and potentially contribute to the second power-play unit." -Jenkins

While both teams are logical options, the Avalanche seem to be a slightly better fit. Their need for secondary scoring is more urgent, and their fast-paced, high-paced, high-powered system could be exactly what Fabbri needs to reignite his offensive potential.
