The Colorado Avalanche will need to round out their 2025-26 roster with low-cost, value-driven ambitions, and this Vegas Golden Knights free agent might be the perfect fit for their cap-conscious approach.

Having just re-signed Brock Nelson to a $7.5 million AAV contract extension, the Avs only have $1.2 million left in cap space.

The Colorado Avalanche are eyeing a depth winger from a divisional rival in free agency.

Graham Tiedtke from Mile Hockey Sticking writes that there's always a risk that a player might not pan out, but that actually plays to the Avalanche's advantage. With limited cap space preventing big contracts, they're forced to focus on affordable, bargain signings, which will minimize their financial risk.
"Vegas Golden Knights left wing Tanner Pearson is the player I have in mind. This past season, he signed a one-year, $775k deal. He put up 12 goals and 15 assists this season in 78 games. He also had 96 hits, the most hits he's had in a season since 2019, when he had 96, too. From 2015-18, Pearson had over 100 hits each year." -Tiedtke

I really appreciate players who aren't afraid to do the gritty, physical work on the ice. Parker Kelly was a kind of players for the Avalanche last season, leading the team with 161 hits. While his offensive numbers weren't eye-popping, just 8 goals and 11 assists, he showed that not every role is about scoring. And when you do get some depth scoring, it's a bonus.
I wouldn't be shocked if Pearson could provide that kind of extra offensive punch that Colorado is seeking.
Pearson might play a crucial role for the Avalanche moving forward. The key will be for the team to convince him to commit to Colorado, even if the contract they offer isn't among the highest in AAV.
