Colorado Avalanche's Nathan MacKinnon has done it all in this league: MVP, Stanley Cup champion, and Art Ross winner for most points in an NHL season. But if we look closer at his body of work, there's no telling how he can go on the all-time great's list amongst the league's legends.

The 30-year-old does not seem to be slowing down anytime soon either.

Avalanche need to grasp how special MacKinnon truly is.

Sean McKenna of Mile High Sticking went into a deeper dive on MacKinnon's accomplishments throughout his career, and while although everyone knows he's in the upper echelon of the league, it becomes even more apparent when we compare him to legends past.
"MacKinnon has scored more points in one season than 23 teams' all-time high points season. Only eight NHL franchises have had a player score 140 points or more in a season. Nasty Nate did just that in 2023-24, winning the Hart trophy as the NHL's MVP. Looking at this graph paints a who's who of hockey royalty. Gretzky, Lemieux, Yzerman, Gilmour and Bossy are just a few names on this list. MacKinnon has more points in a season than all-time greats like Guy LaFleur, Jaromir Jagr and Teemu Selanne." -McKenna

And as previously mentioned he has only gotten better with age. Now entering his 13th NHL season if we look at his recent body of work we can only assume that the best is yet to come.
"He has really taken another step over the last three seasons, scoring over 110 points each of the last three. He's scored more than 30 goals seven times in his career. He's totaled 50 or more assists another seven times in his career. No. 29 is getting better as he gets older. He trains with one of the greatest players of today's generation in Sidney Crosby and being able to emulate how Crosby's game has evolved as he's gotten older is the next step for MacKinnon's 'development,' if it can be considered that." -McKenna

MacKinnon is still in full stride, aiming to stack even more trophies in his collection. Even when we listen to him during interviews the man is only focused on winning and achieving greatness. While his legacy might only be truly appreciated once his career comes to an end, we should relish every time he laces up his skates, because talents like this come only few in a lifetime and both the Avalanche and their fans should recognize that.
