Colorado Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog is making headlines after a blockbuster report shed light on his potential involvement in the upcoming Winter Olympic Games in Italy.

Landeskog was named to Team Sweden, as he will try and help his country capture their first Olympic gold medal since the 2006 Turin Games.

Avalanche's Gabriel Landeskog under immense pressure heading into next season.

Jacob Punturi from Breakaway On Si writes that excitement is quickly building ahead of the 2026 Winter Olympics, with the race for gold shaping up to be a fierce battle primarily among three teams: Canada, Sweden, and the United States.
These powerhouses are stacked with talent and have plenty of options to field highly balanced and competitive lineups.
"The Swedes are trying to capture their first Olympic gold medal since the 2006 Turin Games. They have an excellent chance this upcoming February, so let's take a stab at what their 25-man roster will look like when Sweden arrives for the Milano-Cortina Winter Olympics Games." -Punturi

The biggest difference from the 4 Nations Face-Off is the addition of Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog. His comeback last season was celebrated across the league after knee injuries sidelined him for two consecutive years. Landeskog was among the first six players named to Sweden's roster, a major recognition for the Stanley Cup champion.
"Aside from Landeskog, the biggest change is leaving off veterans Viktor Arvidsson and Gustav Nyquist in favor of players like William Eklund of the San Jose Sharks and Rickard Rakell of the Pittsburgh Penguins." -Punturi

Besides the United States, Sweden boasts the deepest goaltending pool. The three goalies Sweden plans to bring to Italy all have impressive resumes.
Linus Ullmark and Jacob Markstrom currently hold a slight edge over Gustavsson, but if any of them get off to a strong start in the 2025-26 season, they'll likely carry that momentum into the international tournament.
