Islanders make a bold call on former Avalanche legend Patrick Roy's future

Since taking over for Lane Lamber on January 20 2024, Roy has compiled a 55-47-17 record in Long Island.

The Islanders finished the season with a 35-35-12 record and missed the Stanley Cup Playoffs, ending up nine points behind the Montreal Canadiens for the Eastern Conference's second wild card spot.

The Islanders made the playoffs last season after Roy led them to a 20-12-5 record over the final 37 games. However, their postseason run was short-lived, as they were eliminated in five games by the Carolina Hurricanes in the first round.

Darche takes over for Lou Lamoriello, after the Islanders announced on April 22 that Lamoriello's contract as president and general manager would not be renewed. The 82-year-old spent seven seasons with the team.

Roy joined the Islanders after leading the Quebec Remparts of the QMJHL to a Memorial Cup title in 2023, marking the end of his second tenure with the team. He also captured the Memorial Cup with Quebec in 2006 and earned the Jack Adams Award in 2024 after guiding the Colorado Avalanche to a 52-22-8 record in his first season as an NHL head coach.

Hopefully, he's still the man who can turn things around for the Islanders.
