Jonathan Toews may be on track for an NHL comeback next season that mirrors the path taken by Colorado Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog.

Toews, a newly signed Winnipeg Jets forward, could be set to follow a similar path to that of the Avalanche veteran leader.

Jonathan Toews could be following a proven Avalanche formula.

Nestor Quixtan from Mile High Sticking writes that in the June 20 edition of his 32 Thoughts blog, insider Elliotte Friedman drew a comparison between Jonathan Toews' recent signing with his hometown Winnipeg Jets and Gabriel Landeskog's comeback campaign this past season.
In particular, Friedman highlighted the similarities in Toews and Landeskog's journeys, pointing to their extended recoveries, leadership roles, and the cautious optimism surrounding their potential returns to peak form.
"They are different recoveries, but similar in one particular way: no one really knew if the Colorado captain's return would last. Could he practice on back-to-back days? Yes. Could he play back-to-back AHL games? Yes. Could he handle Stanley Cup playoff hockey? Yes. It went better than almost anyone imagined." -Friedman

Landeskog made his triumphant return in a high-skates matchup against one of the top teams in the Western Conference.
Toews, on the other hand, is taking a different route, with a full summer of preparation and a proper training camp ahead, he'll have ample time to ease back into the rhythm of the NHL.
"But throughout the decision-making process, the Colorado Avalanche were purportedly the runners-up. In hindsight, Toews' incentive-laden contract would have worked for the Avs. The Avalanche would have been on the hook for just $2 million against the cap, and then, as incentives kicked in, the Avs would have needed to clear space to cover them." -Quixtan

Had Toews opted to sign with Colorado, he would have bolstered the team's depth down the middle. But much like with Landeskog, the Avalanche wouldn't have truly known what they were getting until Toews stepped onto the ice.
