NHL insider Elliotte Friedman has revealed a key detail about a Sidney Crosby trade that is sure to catch the attention of Colorado Avalanche fans, and it's not likely to be news they'll welcome.
Insider drops shocking Crosby trade update that could upset Avalanche fans.
Elias Adaime from Habs Fanatics writes that on the La Poche Bleue podcast, Friedman revealed that the Canadiens are among the teams Crosby would consider if he were to be traded by the Pittsburgh Penguins.
"I know the Montreal speculation has exploded; I don't think it's impossible; if he agreed to be traded, I think Montreal would be on a very short list of teams he'd be willing to consider." -Friedman
Hearing this from a well-connected and hughly respected insider like Friedman makes it a major development.
"We know this possibility makes Canadiens fans dream, and now the Sportsnet journalist has essentially confirmed that the chances of seeing Sidney Crosby in a bleu-blanc-rouge uniform are real." -Adaime
However, Penguins GM Kyle Dubas would need approval from the 38-year-old veteran, since, as Friedman notes, Crosby has full control over his own NHL future.
"He will become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2027, but if the Penguins were to finally decide to begin a rebuilding process, Kent Hughes would need to be ready if the phone rings and the call comes from the Steel City. We also know the Canadiens are potentially interested in Crosby's longtime friend and teammate Malkin." -Adaime
This is a story to watch closely, particularly if the Penguins stumble out of the gate this season.
