The projected top trio for the Colorado Avalanche comprised of Martin Necas, Valeri Nichushkin and Nathan MacKinnon are on the path of being the best line in the NHL this season.

While it may only be preseason, we have already seen great signs from both Necas and Nichushkin, and we already know MacKinnon is going to perform.

Avalanche's top line, led by Nathan MacKinnon, aims to be the best in the NHL.

Nestor Quixtan of Mile High Sticking discussed the opportunities awaiting the trio this season. Encouraging signs have already emerged in preseason, and the hope is that this momentum carries through the entire season.
"That's back-to-back three-point efforts from two-thirds of the Avalanche's top line. Sure, they're preseason games, but it's the sort of performance you'd expect from top players when not facing other teams' best players. Nichushkin and Necas' dominance occurred without playing with Nathan MacKinnon. Considering that MacKinnon is as good as gold, the Avalanche's top line is poised for a monster season." -Quixtan

Not only is MacKinnon expected to have a career year, but it wouldn't be surprising if Necas surpasses 100 points for the first time in his career.
As a playmaker, his style complements both Nichushkin and MacKinnon, making it entirely plausible that he records around 70 assists this season.
"As for Nichushkin, playing a full, healthy season could be just what the doctor ordered. Last season, the Russian forward returned from suspension in mid-November. He didn't look out of place, but needed some time to ease back into the lineup" -Quixtan

It may still be a concern that there is a lack of depth on the bottom six for the Avalanche, but the top line is certainly looking strong enough to carry the load.
