Former Avalanche top 10 draft pick blindsided by stunning setback to start the season

Tyson Jost, the former 10th overall pick of the Colorado Avalanche, has been blindsided by a major setback after being placed on waivers, putting his start to the 2025-26 season in jeopardy.
NHL waivers are heating up as the new season approaches, and Jost is among 22 players officially placed on waivers on Tuesday.

Tom Banks from House of Hockey writes that over the past five days, more than 100 NHL players have been placed on waivers, with many assigned to the AHL as teams trim their rosters ahead of the 2025-26 regular season.
"While there's been some intriguing veterans like Nicolas Aube-Kubel and others placed on waivers, to this point, there's been no major shockers, with some teams waiting patiently to see if there's going to be some big names available to claim for free." -Banks
Now, another former lottery pick has hit the waiver wire, as the Carolina Hurricanes placed former No. 10 overall pick Tyson Jost on waivers after acquiring him just last season.
"Last year with Carolina, Jost tallied 4 goals and 9 points in 39 games played with the 'Canes, but with the 27-year old also playing 14 games in the AHL, he was always going to be a waiver candidate this summer." -Banks
Beyond those two notable names, the Hurricanes and San Jose Sharks each placed five players on waivers, while Calgary waived four. With the NHL season just a week away, expect even bigger and more intriguing names to hit the waiver wire in the coming days.
