The Colorado Avalanche are on high alert after their Central Division rival, the Minnesota Wild, secured superstar forward Kirill Kaprizov with a massive, record-breaking deal that could reshape the balance of power in the division.

TSN reports that Kaprizov was set to hit unrestricted free agency next summer with his five-year, $45 million contract coming to an end, carrying a $9 million cap hit.
The 28-year-old still produced at an elite level last season, tallying 25 goals and 31 assists for 56 points in just 41 games, despite missing half the year with a lower-body injury.

Since breaking into the NHL with Minnesota in 2020-21, Kaprizov has cemented himself as one of the league's elite offensive talents, racking up 185 goals and 201 assists for 386 points in just 319 regular-season games.
He's also been a reliable playoff performer with 15 goals and 21 assists in 25 career postseason contests.
A three-time NHL All-Star, Kaprizov immediately made his mark by winning both the Calder Trophy and the Art Ross Trophy in his rookie season, setting the stage for the superstar career that continues to redefine the Wild franchise.
