Former Colorado Avalanche star forward Jimmy Vesey stunned the NHL revealing he had requested a trade from the New York Rangers last season, a surprising confession that has the hockey world talking.

Seeking a more favourable situation, the veteran was eventually traded to the Avalanche at the NHL trade deadline.

Jimmy Vesey wanted out of New York before landing in Colorado.

Scott Rogust from Blue Line Station writes that Vesey was openly dissatisfied with how little his role was with the Rangers last season.
"Now, Vesey is playing in Switzerland on Geneve-Servette of the Swiss National League after not receiving a firm offer from any of the 32 NHL teams." -Roguest

In a recent interview with the Morning Cuppa Hockey podcast, Vesey reflected on the final stretch of his second stint with the Rangers. He revealed that, frustrated by his reduced role, he actively tried to leave the team and even requested a trade a month before publicly expressing his dissatisfaction.
"I was trying to get out. That's how I'd phrase it. I actually asked for a trade in December, in hopes that...I was just trying to go somewhere sooner rather than later so that I could just get myself in the mix and establish myself more than going at the deadline." -Vesey

Vesey explained that his trade request last December was motivated by a desire to improve his chances of landing a contract in the offseason. He had been managing an injury through training camp, saw limited action on the ice, and was eventually benched.
In January, Vesey publicly voiced his frustration with his role on the team during an interview with Larry Brooks of the New York Post.
"It seems that I've fallen out of favor and have just been cast aside over an extended period of time,»«It feels like I have no role or purpose on this team...I'm kind of dying by being here." -Vesey

At the March trade deadline, Vesey was dealt to the Avalanche alongside Ryan Lindgren in exchange for Juuso Parssinen and Calvin de Haan.
"It didn't happen until March, so that kind of sucked for me. By the time I got to Colorado, it felt like I hadn't play a lot all year, and, obviously, they had a lot of bodies come in at the deadline and a lot of bodies already in place. I guess I was pretty spot on with what I said, but now I'm out of the League, so..." -Vesey

Vesey appeared in just 10 regular season games for the Avalanche, recording one goal and one assist with an average ice time of 10:34, and didn't play in any of Colorado's playoff games.
After finding a role as a bottom-six, penalty-killing forward in his second Rangers stint, he fell out of favor last season and pushed for a trade, getting his wish later than he had hoped.
