Everything came full circle for Colorado Avalanche prospect Sean Behrens last Sunday against the Utah Mammoth, as the defensemen suited up for the preseason game that was held at his former University of Denver.
Behrens accomplished a lot at his
former school, which is no easy feat given the school's prestigious hockey history.
Sean Behrens returns home for a preseason matchup against the Utah Mammoth.
Ron Knabenbauer of DenverPioneers.com reported on the special moment for Behrens, who is aiming to crack the Avalanche roster eventually.
"Behrens helped begin one of the best eras in DU hockey history-which says something given all the accolades and NCAA-record 10 national titles the program has produced in 76 years. The Pioneers won at least 30 games in each of Behrens' three seasons from 2021 through 2024, a pair of NCHC Penrose Cups as conference regular-season champions, the 2024 NCHC Frozen Faceoff tournament championship and the two most recent national titles in 2022 and 2024." -Knabenbauer
Behrens missed the entire previous season after suffering a knee injury at Colorado Eagles training camp. On Sunday, he got his first taste of NHL action, ironically, in an arena he knows well.
"Playing here for three years, accomplishing what we accomplished, being able to come back here and play again in Magness is awesome, I feel like I kind of grew up here." -Behrens
Behrens will likely spend this season with the AHL's Colorado Eagles, as he continues to refine the defensive side of his game to compete against the NHL's top forwards.
However, if his pro career mirrors his impressive tenure at Denver, he's well on his way to reaching the big leagues.
