Fans want Nelson to be an Avalanche next season

Let's start with Brock Nelson, who has stepped into a significant role after being brought in to play the second-line centre position for the Avalanche.

Adrian Hernandez from Mile High Hockey writes that acquiring Brock Nelson in a deal that involved parting with Colorado's top prospect, Cal Ritchie, raised the stakes significantly.

Letting Nelson walk in free agency would mean essentially giving up their most promising young asset for a rental, an outcome that reflects poorly from a management standpoint. That's why it's likely the Avalanche will make a strong push to re-sign him.

Nelson recorded 13 points (6 goals and 7 assists) in 19 regular season games with the Avalanche. He registered 4 assists in 7 playoff games during Colorado's short postseason run.

On the contrary, Jonathan Drouin's limited availability during the regular season and underwhelming postseason performance have definitely tested the patience of Avalanche fans.

Despite that, it seems likely Drouin will remain with the team for now, as the situation aligns well with his personal path and lifestyle. That said, the Avalanche should be able to keep him at a bargain price. Still, many fans in Colorado feel it's time for Jo to move on and are ready for a fresh start in that roster spot.

We'll have to wait and see what management decides to do throughout the summer.
