Fans were left stunned on Friday as the Colorado Avalanche appeared completely unrecognizable during their latest practice, showcasing a new look and energy as they continue to prepare for what promises to be a pivotal and high-stakes season ahead.
Stepping into Friday's practice without knowing the time of year, you'd think it was midseason, or even playoff time. The energy is intense, and the team looks ready for their opener against the Los Angeles Kings.
The Colorado Avalanche look like a completely different team.
Colleen Flynn from Colorado Hockey Now writes that from the first whistle at Friday's practice, everyone was skating with intensity and showing strong competitive spirit for a preseason practice, while still clearly having fun.
"
Scott Wedgewood looks really good. He changed his conditioning this summer (story coming soon) and looks confident and strong between the pipes. He's expected to start the season while
Mackenzie Blackwood continues to rehab from a lower-body injury." -Flynn
Sparks flew on the ice, and not just from the blades, but between teammates. Training camp and preseason are all about building chemistry, and it's clear that process is already underway.
They should install a speedometer for post-practice shots.
Martin Necas has an absolute rocket, and you can see and hear it from the moment we were waiting to get into the room, writes Flynn.
With players like veteran defenseman
Brent Burns setting the tone, it's clear this Avalanche team is ready to work harder, skate faster, and make this season one to remember.
