Fans are buzzing as the Colorado Avalanche unveil surprising plans for the upcoming season, which include a special collaboration with artist Karma Leigh to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, highlighting the team's commitment to both creativity and community engagement.

The partnership promises unique events and experiences for fans throughout the season.

Avalanche announce exciting news for this NHL season.

Leigh is a Chicana educator and artist from Colorado who grew up immersed in two distinct environments, the vibrant urban life of the city and the breathtaking natural beauty of the Rocky Mountains.
Both worlds have deeply influenced her work as an artist and educator. Driven by a lifelong curiosity, Leigh has explored numerous cities across the U.S., including a three-year stay in Phoenix.
During her time there, being surrounded by talented and prolific artists helped ignite and refine her passion for creating and developing her artistic skills.
Leigh, as an artist, shared that she enjoys painting, connecting with animals, and incorporating symbolism and vibrant colors into her work.
For this project, she aimed to celebrate her mixed heritage and explore themes of migration.
"Without migration, I would not exist here in Colorado. The bald eagle represents the American heritage and the golden eagle represents my Mexican heritage. In-between the birds is the Nahuatl "tlatolli", a symbol for speech, discord and communication among other interpretations.

The hummingbird/s and monarch are representations of migration, both make long distance journeys between North and Central America, relying on the land and plants to survive. Hummingbirds and monarchs are visual interpretations of my ancestors, something you see a lot in Chicana/o or Mexican art. The monarch was intentionally painted on the back of the jersey; my grandmothers who have my back are always guiding me in spirt." -Leigh

Leigh is a self-taught painter, muralist, and curator whose talents extend far beyond the canvas.
She has organized successful vendor markets for FemFest, taught through the EPIC Arts program at Redline Gallery, spent a decade teaching with Museo de las Americas, and dedicated six years to the suicide-prevention program Voz y Corazon.
Karma is currently working as an art teacher at Lake Middle School, where she has found her professional home.
