After battling a quad injury sustained in 2020, and pushing through it to help win the Stanley Cup in 2022, it looked like the Swedish forward might never play again after sitting out the entire 2023 and 2024 campaigns.
Gabriel Landeskog doesn't hold back and delivers a shocking message to Avs fans.
Trent Finnegan from Denver Sports writes that halfway through the 2025 season,
Landeskog's outlook remained uncertain, with no clear timeline for his return. But when the buzz began, and clips of him skating at practice started to emerge, he was in Loveland training with the Colorado Eagles just ahead of the Avalanche's playoff run.
When Game 3 arrived, the atmosphere at Ball Arena was electric as he was announced in the starting lineup, making his first NHL appearance in 1,032 days.
"While his season didn't have the magical, storybook ending with a championship - and rather a sour one thanks to the Avalanche blowing a two-goal lead late in Game 7 - there were still plenty of great moments from the five games he played to carry into next season." -Finnegan
On Tuesday, the captain shared on Instagram post reflecting on his season, expressing gratitude to the fans, his teammates, and everyone who supported him throughout his journey back to the ice.
1032 days. Taking some time to digest this. Hard to put into words what it felt like being back on the ice, with my teammates, and infront of you amazing fans. It's been a long journey, but man has it been worth it. Thank you for the incredible support over the last three years, the thoughtful messages, the encouraging words on the street, or just the patience you've shown, I couldn't have done it without you. Excited for what's to come!!
The 32-year-old tallied one goal and three assists in five playoff games, and added a goal and an assist during his two AHL appearances with the Eagles.
"If his offseason goes as planned, Landeskog should be back on the ice for Colorado next season, especially now that he has a center to pair nicely with on the second line in
Brock Nelson for the next couple of seasons." -Finnegan
While it's unlikely he suits up for every game in the 2025-26 season, given everything his body has endured, if Landeskog can find his rhythm beofre the playoffs and develop chemistry with Brock Nelson, it could set the stage for a strong postseason push in his quest for a second Stanley Cup.
