Nelson drops a bombshell after inking extension with the Avalanche.
Tristin McKinstry from Heavy.com writes that his play clearly impressed the Avalanche, as the 33-year-old secured a three-year extension carrying a $7.5 million AAV.
According to PuckPedia, the deal includes a full no-trade clause for the first two years and a modified no-trade clause in the final season. On Wednesday, the veteran forward shared his reasons for choosing to stay in Colorado, via David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period.
«My family and I are excited to be staying in Colorado. Having spent my entire career with one organization, we weren't totally sure what to expect when we arrived in Denver. But getting the opportunity to play for the Avalanche, to compete with a great group of teammates in that locker room, and in front of the tremendous fans at Ball Arena, we knew this was where we wanted to stay." -Nelson
Nelson may not have been a superstar, but he proved he could fit seamlessly into Colorado's top-six forward group. He delivered solid production during the regular season, and the Avalanche are confident he can remain a reliable presence on their second line moving forward.
Here's what Avalanche GM Chris MacFarland had to say following Nelson's signing, via The Denver Post reporter Corey Masisak.
«We're thrilled to have reached an agreement with Brock to keep him in Colorado for the next three seasons. He's been a great center in this league for a long time, and he brings professionalism and a dedicated work ethic on and off the ice. We think he's a great fit and is a stabilizing presence to our second-line center role with his size and ability to touch all areas of the ice. We're excited to see what his contributions will be over a larger sample size with the Avalanche.» -MacFarland
With only $1.2 million left in cap space, MacFarland will have no choice but to move some money around somehow. No matter what happens, the Avalanche are in for an interesting offseason.
