Couple of Avalanche forwards leading their countries at the IIHF

Nathan MacKinnon and Martin Necas are currently in Sweden, representing their countries at the IIHF World Championships and have each played three games so far in the tournament.

Colorado Avalanche fans are still reeling from the heartbreaking collapse in Dallas just a week ago, when the team squandered a two-goal lead in the third period of Game 7 against the Stars.

Trent Finnegan from Denver Sports writes that for Team Canada, Nathan MacKinnon has recorded eight points in four games, four goals and four assists, while wearing No. 9 instead of his usual No. 29. MacKinnon sits behind Czechia's David Pastrnak for the second leading scorer in the tournament.

Despite coming off a tough seven-game series just a week ago, MacKinnon leads all Canadian forwards with 64 shifts, showing no signs of fatigue.

Over in Group B, Martin Necas has helped lead Team Czechia to a 2-1-0 record, putting them in third place. The winger has scored two goals in just 33 minutes of ice time, tying him for the team lead in goals.

Both MacKinnon and Necas have four preliminary games remaining with their respective national teams before the round-robin stage concludes on March 20. If they continue their strong performances, there's a real chance Avalanche fans could witness a head-to-head clash between two of Colorado's top forwards on the international stage in Europe next week.

We'll have to wait and see how the rest of the tournament unfolds.
