The Colorado Avalanche are taking notice after an NHL insider hinted that superstar forward Connor McDavid could be heading to the Chicago Blackhawks, sending shockwaves through the league.
McDavid's current contract runs through the end of the 2025-26 NHL season, and following Kirill Kaprizov's recent record-breaking extension, it's natural to wonder how this will affect McDavid's next deal.

Julien Trekker from Hawks Insider writes that many questions about his future remain, but as he has stated in multiple interviews, he is now open to all options, including the possibility of leaving the Oilers.
"There's a general belief that McDavid's future with the Oilers will depend on how the season unfolds, but rumors about his departure won't cease until an extension is announced." -Trekker
The Athletic's writers recently speculated on the offers McDavid might receive from all 32 NHL teams if he were ever to become available.
"Many teams have no chance at all to get him, but for a team like the Chicago Blackhawks, who are in the middle of a rebuild but already have Connor Bedard in place, it's interesting to imagine the possibility." -Trekker
Scott Powers, The Athletic's Blackhawks reporter, outlined how McDavid could transform the franchise if he joined the team.
While a fit might be challenging, he noted that pairing McDavid with Bedard would be remarkable, and that McDavid could play a key role in guiding the younger players.

"It's hard to see the Blackhawks as real players for McDavid, but if that were somehow the case, their pitch would be all about the future and the opportunity to return a major hockey market to Cup contenders. The Blackhawks have made 11 first-round picks in the last four years, and a number of those players are starting to arrive in the NHL. McDavid would be surrounded by young talent, most notably Connor Bedard, for the rest of his career. That would allow McDavid to lead that youth and later be supported by it." -Powers
McDavid's deserves to be the highest-paid player in the NHL, even surpassing Kirill Kaprizov's record-setting $17 million AAV.
