Colorado Avalanche's Cale Makar Is Now Being Compared To Some NHL Legends Following A Recent Announcement

This season in 77 games with the Colorado Avalanche, Cale Makar has put up elite numbers for a defenseman.

He's scored 90 points (30 goals, 60 assists) and is the first to do so in thirty-five years. This puts him in the company of legendary defenseman like Ray Bourque, Bobby Orr, and Paul Coffey.

Many of those elite players put those kinds of numbers more than four times aside from Paul Coffey and Ray Bourque, but it speaks to the quality of NHLer Makar has developed himself into.

This is the second season in which Makar has posted 90 points, and the first year he did so was during the 2023-2024 season. Elite numbers!

Makar has already won a Stanley Cup in 2022, when the Colorado Avalanche demolished the reigning Stanley Cup champs, the Tampa Bay Lightning.

He was a part of the team that put an end to Jon Cooper's reign of terror in the NHL. He'd win the Norris Trophy that year, and has been a consistent nominee the past four years since.

Makar's skills and talent are undeniable as the Avalanche's top defenseman, who has proven every bit he was worth the 4th overall pick during the 1st round of the 2017 NHL Draft.

In his first season in the league, he'd post 50 points (12 goals, 38 assists) and has grown into a core piece in the Avalanche's lineup.

If anything, his path was set already and has continued to perform to expectations for both fans and the team's front office.

Makar is in year four of his six-year deal with the Avalanche that pays him $9.0 million AAV.
