Avalanche zero in on surprising replacement for franchise cornerstone in blockbuster trade

Speculation indicates that Martin Necas wasn't entirely satisfied with his stint in Denver. Although he's only spent half a season with the Colorado Avalanche, there's still a possibility he could choose to remain with the team.
The problem is that Colorado can't take the chance of losing him for nothing in free agency next summer, particularly after banking on him signing a long-term deal.
Colorado wastes no time identifying a possible Necas replacement.
Conor Lively from Mile High Sticking writes that it's a bold concept, especially since teams usually avoid trading key players within their own division. However, the Blue are reportedly shopping Jordan Kyrou ahead of July 1st, when his full no-trade clause goes into effect.
"The Avs could put together a package that could land him. Kyrou's contract is a bit richer at $8.125m, but it's another deal with term as he's under contract for six more years through to 2031. Kyrou's scoring touch would be a welcome addition to an Avalanche forward group that has more playmakers than scorers. And then of course, there's the MacKinnon effect." -Lively
Kyrou has reliable produced over 65 points and 25 goals in each of the past four seasons. In comparison, Necas had only reached those marks once each before this year, and that came while playing alongside Nathan MacKinnon. Unlike Necas, Kyrou has consistently driven offense on his own and been a centerpiece for the Blues.
Landing Kyrou would be a clear upgrade over Necas for Colorado, and dumping the burdensome Miles Wood contract in the same deal would make it even better. All things considered, this would be a smart, value-packed move for the Avalanche.
