Rumors suggest that Necas hasn't been entirely happy with his time in Denver. While he's only been with the Avalanche for half a season, there's still a chance he might decide to stay.

The issue, however, is that Colorado can't afford to risk losing him for nothing in free agency next summer, especially since they were counting on him re-signing.

Avalanche have their eye on a replacement for Martin Necas.

Conor Lively from Mile High Sticking writes that if Necas is unsure about staying with the Avalanche and Jonathan Drouin appears unlikely to re-sign, targeting Bryan Rust would be a smart and reliable move for Colorado.
"Rust is under contract for three more years at $5.125m while Necas is probably going to secure himself a significant raise after this season. Rust is definitely older at 33, but he's a proven and consistent player." -Lively

If he can put up numbers alongside an aging Sidney Crosby, just imagine the impact he could have playing next to Nathan MacKinnon in his prime. Plus, his team-friendly contract would give the Avalanche a valuable, tradeable asset down the line.
"Josh Manson is included to dump salary and Kolyachonok is a cheap defenseman who can compete for bottom pair, seventh defenseman duties. It's high time for Manson to move as Sam Malinski has begun to establish himself as legitimate second pair defenseman. I've seen Kolyachonok play in his time in Arizona/Utah and I like his game. He's young and a bit unrefined, but I think he could fit in to Colorado's system as a shutdown, puck-moving third pair defenseman." -Lively

As a side note, I seriously considered mentioning Rikard Rakell instead of Bryan Rust since he has a similar $5 million, three-year contract. However, Rakell has a modified no-trade clause and hasn't been as consistent as Rust. Still, I wouldn't be upset if the Avalanche ended up acquiring Rakell instead.
